WIN Distance Learning

The Waisman WIN (Wellness Inclusion Nursing) program is excited to announce a new series of online training opportunities for individuals around the state of Wisconsin. This series will provide expertise, training, and resources through videoconference workshops for individuals who support the overall health and wellbeing of adults and children with IDDs in their communities.

Access to resources and clinical services focused on the specialized healthcare needs of individuals with disabilities may not be available in many rural and underserved communities in Wisconsin and beyond. To meet this need, the Waisman Center aims to expand access to its specialized resources and expertise through WIN videoconference workshops.

Who should participate:

Family members, caregivers, residential and vocational staff, and others who support adults and children with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDDs) in the community.

Presented by Marcia Stickel, Clinical Nurse Specialist, and former Wellness Inclusion Nursing Program Director

Stickel’s education includes a BA in Psychology as well as a BSN in Nursing. She enjoyed using both degrees in many of her nursing experiences.  She worked as a home health nurse and as a hospital nurse on a rehab unit, working with those who had traumatic brain injuries.

Stickel worked in community nursing in Dane County, first as a nurse care manager for individuals with both physical and severe mental health disabilities at CLA and Care Wisconsin.

From 2009-2019, Stickel worked in the Wellness Inclusion Nursing program, an outreach program from the UW Waisman Center. The program works with individuals who have developmental disabilities or traumatic brain injuries and who live in the community and work primarily as advocates, consultants, and educators.
